GNS AWARD
FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS

The International Institute for Peace has been active for many years in the field of human rights, international co-operation, development, peace , security and non -alignment. In that context it worked together with a number of likeminded institutions from many countries especially also with institutions of countries in the socalled Third World. In the context of it’s capacity as an NGO, the IIP was and will be active in the relevant UN bodies in Vienna, Geneva and New York in the field of Human Rights and Security enjoying the good relations with many institutions working on the same line.

In late spring 2002 the leadership of the International Institute for Non-aligned Studies (IINS), based in New Delhi, decided to hand over to the IIP the newly created” GNS AWARD FOR INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS” named after the late founder of this well known institution, Dr Govind Narain Srivastava, an outstanding personality in the field of human rights and international co-operation. He in fact has created the IINS and developed it to the international importance as it is being recognized today. IINS has great achievements in South-South co-operation and especially in the field of NGO activities in human rights.

The director of the IIP, Peter Stania, M.A., had the honour to receive the award in the name of the International Institute for Peace in a ceremony organised in New Delhi the 22nd of July in the presence of Indian politician, scientists, diplomats, members of IINS and invited guests. As his personal contribution to international co-operation was mentioned, he expressed the greatfulness of the IIP of having been awarded with this noble distinction.
